How I Can Help You
If you find yourself seriously considering a family law legal action, or if you’ve already made up your mind to take action, you’ve probably already done some research and maybe you’ve even talked with a close friend. When you’re ready to talk with an attorney, please contact me at 860-871-9449 or 860-749-4000 or by email.
I’ll listen carefully to you and I’ll answer your questions directly and clearly. I’ll also ask you about your specific goals and we’ll decide together if it makes sense to meet to consider next steps. Sometimes, even a brief phone call can clarify if what you’re thinking and feeling is something to act on right away. Maybe it is something that needs more time.
If we agree, after a conversation and meeting, that taking legal action is a path you’re ready to pursue -- then I will use my 30 plus years in family law to assist you.
My legal assistant and I work as a true team and gather the information we need to prepare a strategy to meet your objectives. From there, we stay in close communication with you throughout the negotiation process, regardless of the type of divorce.
Relationship transitions that involve children, whether smooth or rocky, are particularly sensitive. The approach we take is always to put their interests and well-being first.
Call me to set up a time to talk. If I’m in court, my assistant promptly will get back to you.
I am a partner at Leighton, Katz & Drapeau. The firm has offices in Vernon, Enfield, Hartford and Middletown. My area of concentration is family law.
In my 30 plus years of practice, I have been involved in thousands of cases. I have been trial counsel in various Connecticut state courts. I have represented diverse parties, including children in family law cases.
Presently, I am a Special Master in the Connecticut family law court mediation system. Also, I am a private mediator for those who wish to minimize the stress and expense and de-emphasize the involvement of the Court in their private lives. I am trained and experienced in collaborative divorce which is another alternative to extensive court involvement.
Previously, I was the President of the Tolland County Lawyers’ Association and a family law instructor at Manchester Community College. Also, I have several years experience as a family social worker. Through the years, I have been involved with diverse legal and community organizations.
I obtained my Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts. I then received my Juris Doctorate from the University of Connecticut.
Family law parties need someone to help them navigate through a somewhat unique and emotional time in their life. My referral and “word of mouth” clients are a testament to my understanding of and success with these difficult endeavors.
I am a member of: the Connecticut Federal Bar; the Tolland County Bar; the Family Law Division of the Connecticut Bar Association; and Collaborative Divorce Professionals.
